आरिफ़ ने घायल सारस का इलाज किया था उसके बाद से वो पक्षी उनके पास ही रहने लगा. वो आरिफ़ के साथ ही खाना खाता और घूमता था.
आरिफ़ का कहना है कि उन्होंने उस सारस को कभी क़ैद में नहीं रखा वो एक आज़ाद पंछी था. उनका ये भी कहना है कि इससे पहले वन विभाग का कोई अधिकारी इस बारे में उससे जानकारी लेने नहीं आया.
