New Delhi, March 11, 2025 – The promotion and preservation of Kheta embroidery, a traditional Indian handicraft, were discussed in Parliament today. Lawmakers emphasized the importance of safeguarding this rich cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for artisans.

During the session, Members of Parliament raised concerns about the declining practice of Kheta embroidery due to modernization and lack of awareness. Proposals were made to integrate this craft into national and international markets, provide financial support to artisans, and introduce skill development programs.

The government assured that initiatives are underway to promote Kheta embroidery through handicraft fairs, e-commerce platforms, and collaborations with designers. Additionally, discussions included the possibility of geographical indication (GI) tagging to ensure authenticity and recognition.

Experts believe that such efforts will not only preserve India’s traditional art but also provide sustainable livelihoods to artisans, encouraging future generations to continue this unique craft.
