March 10, 2025 – The Maharashtra government has announced key infrastructure projects in its latest budget, including plans for a third airport in Mumbai and approval for night landings at Shirdi Airport. These developments aim to enhance connectivity and support the state’s growing aviation needs.

Third Airport Planned for Mumbai

With Mumbai’s existing airports—Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and the under-construction Navi Mumbai International Airport—nearing capacity, the government has proposed a third airport to accommodate rising air traffic. While the exact location is yet to be finalized, officials have emphasized that the new facility will ease congestion and boost economic growth in the region.

Night Landing Facility for Shirdi Airport

The government has also approved night landing operations at Shirdi Airport, a major transit hub for pilgrims visiting the Sai Baba temple. This upgrade is expected to improve accessibility, allowing more flights to operate beyond daylight hours. Authorities have confirmed that necessary infrastructure, including advanced runway lighting and navigation systems, will be installed to ensure safe night operations.

Strengthening Maharashtra’s Aviation Network

These announcements align with the state’s vision of expanding its aviation sector and improving air travel efficiency. The third Mumbai airport will play a crucial role in meeting future demand, while enhanced operations at Shirdi Airport will provide better connectivity for thousands of travelers.

With these projects in motion, Maharashtra is set to witness significant advancements in its aviation infrastructure, supporting both tourism and economic development.
