On February 20, 2025, Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of Delhi, marking a significant milestone as she becomes the fourth woman to hold this esteemed position. The grand ceremony took place at Ramlila Maidan, a venue historically significant for political gatherings, and was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President J.P. Nadda, and Chief Ministers from various NDA-ruled states.
In light of the high-profile nature of the event, Delhi Police implemented comprehensive security measures to ensure the safety of all attendees. Special traffic arrangements were in place, with diversions and restrictions enforced from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the day of the ceremony. Commuters were advised to utilize public transport and avoid roadside parking to alleviate congestion. Specific advisories were issued for those heading towards New Delhi Railway Station, recommending the use of the Paharganj side instead of Ajmeri Gate to facilitate smoother movement.
Rekha Gupta's political journey is marked by her longstanding association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She has previously served as the President of the Delhi University Students' Union and held the position of National Vice President of the BJP Mahila Morcha. In the recent assembly elections, she secured a decisive victory from the Shalimar Bagh constituency, defeating AAP's Bandana Kumari by a margin of 29,595 votes.
The formation of her cabinet includes six other ministers, with Parvesh Verma appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister. The oath of office was administered by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at 12:35 PM.
This event signifies the BJP's return to power in Delhi after 26 years, underscoring a pivotal shift in the political landscape of the national capital. The administration under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is poised to address key issues and work towards the development and welfare of Delhi's residents.
