In a pioneering move to uphold the integrity of its board examinations, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has introduced advanced surveillance measures for the ongoing Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, which commence today, February 21, 2025. These initiatives are part of the state's comprehensive 'copy-free exam' campaign, aiming to eradicate malpractices and ensure a fair assessment environment for all students.
Drone Surveillance at Sensitive Centers
For the first time, drone technology is being deployed to monitor examination activities at centers identified as sensitive. Out of approximately 8,500 centers statewide, around 500 have been classified as sensitive based on historical instances of misconduct. The deployment of drones is intended to provide real-time aerial surveillance, deterring potential malpractices and enabling prompt intervention when necessary.
Facial Recognition for Examination Personnel
In addition to drone monitoring, the board has implemented facial recognition systems to verify the identities of examination officials, including center directors and supervisors. This measure ensures that only authorized personnel are present, thereby reducing the risk of internal collusion or impersonation.
Enforcement of Anti-Malpractice Legislation
The state is rigorously enforcing the Maharashtra Prevention of Malpractices Act, 1982. Individuals found aiding or engaging in examination malpractices will face cognizable and non-bailable charges under this act. This strict legal framework serves as a deterrent against attempts to compromise the examination process.
Additional Preventive Measures
To further safeguard the examination environment, several supplementary measures have been instituted:
Closure of Photocopy Centers: All photocopy (Xerox) shops within a 500-meter radius of examination centers will remain closed during exam hours to prevent the unauthorized distribution of study materials or question papers. citeturn0search3
Imposition of Section 144: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 have been enforced around examination centers to prevent unlawful assemblies and potential disturbances. citeturn0search0
Deployment of Flying Squads: Special flying squads have been constituted to conduct surprise inspections, ensuring adherence to examination protocols and identifying any irregularities.
These comprehensive measures reflect the Maharashtra government's commitment to conducting SSC examinations in a secure, transparent, and equitable manner. By leveraging advanced technologies and enforcing stringent regulations, the state aims to provide a conducive environment that upholds the sanctity of its educational assessments.
