The Vice President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, emphasized that spirituality is often misinterpreted as superstition due to a lack of understanding. Highlighting the inclusive nature of Sanatan, he stated, “Some individuals, out of ignorance or misinterpretation, wrongly categorize our sacred elements, including spirituality, as superstition.”
He further elaborated on the significance of Sanatan, stating, “Sanatan offers answers to modern-day challenges, regardless of location. It stands for inclusivity, universal well-being, and the supremacy of the soul. It does not promote subjugation—rather, embracing Sanatan leads to true freedom of the self.”
Stressing the broader meaning of religion, Shri Dhankhar remarked, “Religion cannot be confined to a narrow or conservative perspective. Its true essence must be understood beyond boundaries. When we grasp this meaning, we realize the importance of making India a global leader once again, a guiding force for the world.”
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gaudiya Mission’s founder, Acharya Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupad, he reflected on India’s historical resilience. He noted, “Our culture has withstood invasions, destruction, and immense hardships. The burning of Nalanda University, for instance, led to the loss of countless invaluable books—treasures of knowledge that were not just for India but for the entire world. Even today’s technological advancements have roots in this ancient wisdom.”
Shri Dhankhar also paid tribute to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, stating, “He never compromised on nationalism and made great sacrifices. Today, we are fortunate that the concerns he voiced and the challenges he foresaw are no longer present in our Constitution.”
Emphasizing the importance of cultural preservation, he remarked, “It is vital for children to be aware of their cultural heritage. Many initiatives are being undertaken in this regard, which is a positive sign. A nation’s true wealth is not material prosperity, but its culture. If culture is lost, decline becomes inevitable. Protecting and sustaining cultural values is essential, as they define India.”
Reflecting on India’s historical significance, he added, “There was a time when scholars from across the world sought knowledge here. Our institutions were renowned, but foreign invasions over the centuries led to destruction. Despite such adversities, India’s cultural essence has survived for over a thousand years and remains strong even today.”
Positioning India as a global cultural hub, Shri Dhankhar remarked, “India is the cultural epicenter of the world, with Kolkata being one of its key focal points. The world faces pressing challenges, including climate change, but the greatest crisis is within the human mind. Despite material wealth and power, there remains a void. And when people seek deeper meaning, they turn to one guiding light—India.”
The event was also attended by Shri C.V. Ananda Bose, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Shri Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for Tourism, Srimad Bhakti Sundar Sanyasi Goswami Maharaj, President & Acharya of Gaudiya Mission, along with other dignitaries.
