3 blasts, one dead, 36 injured in prayer meeting in Kerala: 2 thousand people were present; DGP said- IED was used; NIA-NSG arrived
Three blasts took place at a convention center in Ernakulam, Kerala on Sunday. One woman died in the incident, while 36 people were reported injured. According to reports, around 2 thousand people were praying in this convention center located in Kalamassery at around 9.30 in the morning, during which there were three consecutive explosions within 5 minutes.
TA Sreekumar, local spokesperson of the Jehovah's Witnesses organization, said the first blast occurred in the center of the convention hall after the prayer ended at 9:45 p.m. A few seconds later, two more explosions occurred on either side of the hall. A large number of people from the Jewish community live around the area where the blast took place in Ernakulam.
Kerala DGP Shake Darvesh Saheb said that it has been confirmed that the attack was a bomb blast. Police also said that 8 special teams have been sent to the spot to investigate.
Kerala CM was protesting in Delhi at the time of the blasts.
When the blasts took place in Kerala, the state's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was protesting in Delhi. This protest has been organized by the Communist Party in protest against Israel's attack on Gaza. Even after the blasts, Vijayan remained present in the protest. However, he termed the blasts as unfortunate and said that he has spoken to the state DGP regarding the situation after the blast.
