Portal launched on the second day of CAA notification: Muslim League reaches Supreme Court; Tamil Nadu CM said- We will not implement the law

The Home Ministry has launched a web portal for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act i.e. CAA. Applications for citizenship have been invited from non-Muslim refugees who have come to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

The Center had issued the CAA notification on Monday (March 11). With this, this law came into force across the country. CAA is called Citizenship Amendment Act in Hindi. Under this, people of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian communities who came to India from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh before 31 December 2014 will be given citizenship.

On the other hand, Indian Union Muslim League has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding a ban on CAA. The petition demands a stay on the implementation of the controversial provisions of the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 and the Citizenship Amendment Rules 2024. At the same time, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has said that he will not implement this law in the state.

How can you apply?

For citizenship under CAA, one has to apply online at https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in

In this the applicant will have to tell in which year he came to India. You will be able to apply even if you do not have a passport or other travel documents.
