ED officer arrested for taking bribe of Rs 20 lakh in Tamil Nadu: Had asked for Rs 51 lakh from the doctor; Third officer of Central Agency caught in 5 months
n Tamil Nadu, an ED officer has been arrested by the state's anti-corruption and vigilance team on charges of taking a bribe of Rs 20 lakh. The name of the accused ED officer is Ankit Tiwari. He is posted in Madurai ED office. State agencies are investigating the ED office and Tiwari's house.
According to state agencies, an ED officer had threatened a government doctor in an old case and demanded Rs 3 crore. However, later the deal was finalized at Rs 51 lakh. The doctor paid Rs 20 lakh as the first installment of bribe on December 1 and complained to the vigilance team.
This is the third arrest of a Central Investigation Agency ED officer on charges of taking bribe in the last five months. Earlier in August, CBI had arrested ED Assistant Director Pawan Khatri on charges of taking bribe of Rs 5 crore in the Delhi Liquor Policy case.
Apart from this, on November 2, Jaipur ACB had arrested ED Inspector level officer Naval Kishore Meena and his associate Babulal Meena for taking a bribe of Rs 15 lakh.
