Union Budget 2025: Key Announcements for Education Sector
On February 1, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Education Budget 2025, highlighting major investments in higher education and research.
A budget of ₹500 crore has been allocated to establish a Center of Excellence focused on Artificial Intelligence in education, aiming to enhance learning and research in this field.
Five IITs established after 2014 will receive additional infrastructure to accommodate 6,500 more students. Additionally, IIT Patna will see an expansion in hostel and other campus facilities to support its growing student population. Over the past decade, total enrollment in the country’s 23 IITs has doubled, increasing from 65,000 to 1.35 lakh students.
The government will provide 10,000 PM Research Fellowships to students at IITs and IISc Bangalore. These fellowships aim to support advanced research and innovation in top institutions with enhanced financial assistance.
