Kunal Kamra’s Call Records, Transactions to Be Probed, Says Maharashtra Minister

Mumbai, March 24, 2025 – The controversy surrounding comedian Kunal Kamra has taken a new turn, as a Maharashtra minister announced that his call records and financial transactions would be scrutinized. The move comes amid ongoing debates about free speech, political criticism, and alleged external influences.

The minister, whose name has not been disclosed, stated, “We need to investigate whether there are external influences behind such statements. His call logs and financial transactions will be examined to ensure transparency.” The decision has sparked strong reactions from various political factions and the public.

Kunal Kamra, known for his satirical and politically charged comedy, has been at the center of a heated dispute after making remarks that some ruling party leaders deemed offensive. Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also weighed in, reiterating his stance on political criticism. “If someone has betrayed our principles, calling them a ‘gaddar’ is justified. But attempting to silence a comedian by investigating his personal data is an abuse of power,” he said.

Kamra responded to the controversy with his trademark wit. “Satire is not a crime. If politicians feel offended, perhaps they should reconsider their actions rather than demand apologies from comedians. Now, they want to check my call records and transactions? What’s next, my grocery bills?” he posted on social media.
