Chennai, March 21, 2025 — The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced the renaming of Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam to "Ravichandran Ashwin Road" in honor of the esteemed cricketer. This street holds personal significance as Ashwin's longtime residence.
The proposal for renaming was submitted by Carrom Ball Event and Marketing Company Private Limited, owned by Ashwin. The company suggested renaming either Arya Gowda Road or Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street. After consideration, the GCC selected the latter for this honor.
Ashwin, a Chennai native, has been a pivotal figure in Indian cricket, especially in Test matches. Beyond his international achievements, he continues to contribute locally by training students from GCC schools. Notably, he is set to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
An official ceremony to mark the renaming is anticipated soon, celebrating Ashwin's enduring legacy in Chennai's cricketing community.
